Baja 1000 Update November 18, 2017

Ensenada, Baja, MX - Unfortunately all 3 teams that took on the challenge of Baja didn't make it to the finish this year so here is the run down.

The Vision Hype team brought took the 6061 to an early lead but at RM271 smashed a rock removing the right front wheel along with suspension components connected to it. Everyone is OK after the wreck and the Vision Hype will be in prep & repair mode to get ready for Rage at the River.

Team Israel was running strong and taking on the issues as they would arise like flat tires, digging out of silt beds and sand washes. But around RM720 the 6099 began to experience fuel delivery issues with clogged fuel filters. After clearing that up and back on course at RM745ish the team lost the transmission in the early morning hours and chose to call it.

Team Cobb took over the lead after the 6061 was unable to continue. They were moving along well, dealing with flats and getting stuck but still making progress regardless. However at RM798 the 6066 rolled and they were unable to restart the engine thus ending their race as well. Everyone is OK after the incident just frustrated and disappointed about missing the chance to win the 50th Baja 1000.

Trophylite would like to thank all of our friends, families and sponsors and everyone who helped our 3 teams make the trip for a chance to race this epic event.

Mint 400 Race Update March 5, 2017

TrophyLite - 2017 BITD MINT 400

Las Vegas, NV - The 2017 MINT 400 was a brutal race through the Nevada desert just outside of Vegas. 17 registered trucks looked to try their luck at what some consider one of the toughest courses in the Best in the Desert series. Racing began with Louis Chamberland taking his opponent off the line and would lead the TrophyLite class into the desert. Midway through lap 1 Brandon Arciero would jump into the lead and stay there for almost 2 full laps but Todd Jackson, Jeff Mortis and Tony Sato were not far behind. Just 20 miles before the end of lap 2 the 6017 would bust up their flywheel leaving them stranded waiting for a tow to main pit. The always fast 6001 would take the lead and stay there to win the Mint 400, two years in a row. Jeff Mortis finished 2nd and Tony Sato found the podium as well in 3rd.

TrophyLite - BlueWater Desert Challenge- Chris Hall Chassis #1

All bets were off at the final race in the General Tire Trophylite racing series; the Best In The Desert, Henderson 250 in Henderson, Nevada. The season long points chase appeared to be locked up by Andrew McLeod who was leading PJ Guglielmo by a tight but seemingly unsurmountable points tally. Guglielmo would need a perfect storm in Henderson to overtake McLeod. He would have to win the race and McLeod would have to dnf, (did not finish). After a 9th place draw for starting position, it seemed an impossible mountain for Guglielmo to climb however, nothing is a given in the super competitive Trophylite series.

TrophyLite - BlueWater Desert Challenge- Chris Hall Chassis #1

“We were having a blast, it was a great race,” said Hall, “Everyone in Trophylite has been very nice. We started in eighth place and just chased the lights ahead in the dust. Once we would catch the truck in front, we would take after the next one. We finished 34 seconds behind Todd on day one. He came over and shook my hand afterward and told me it’s not easy to track him down like that. It was the same thing on day two, Todd and I had a gap on the rest of the field. The dust was really bad, we were driving by GPS some of the time. When we came around a corner and saw him stopped, we knew we had a chance at the overall win.

TrophyLite - Baja 500 - Russ Phillips House Rental

The dust was blinding and we were fighting amongst a couple of classes all day. There were trucks and cars limping around the course and if you pulled out to pass you risked a flat tire. We could catch Jeff Proctor but could not get around him for 80 miles, including two pit stops. We finally passed him when they flipped on their roof. After that, we started checking out, but it was super rough. There were g-outs all over the course. We hit one that dazed me for a second. After 400 miles it started to hurt, but we kept putting time on them. We also hit some deep water out on a normally dry lakebed, sending a wave over the hood.

Las Vegas, Nv - We passed Jackson in the pits and then Mendoza while he was upside down. I knew PJ and Proctor were right behind but I had clean air; I made sure to stay in front. We were missing a few teeth from the ring and pinion and then about ten miles from the finish I smacked a big rock in the silt. I figured the tire was flat but we were so close I kept going. We were running the new General Tire MT. They performed incredibly all day. The new Mud Terrain MT tire held up to get us to the finish line for the win.

TrophyLite - Vegas to Reno - 2014

Reno, Nv - You would think that the longest off road race in the United States, Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno (V2R), would be won by a measured, conservative pace. Due to the level of competition in the Trophylite Racing Series, that wasn’t the case. After a long day of racing that included numerous lead changes, the eventual winner was determined after a desperate sprint for the finish. Known more for its high speed sections, the V2R course has plenty of rocks and silt to negotiate as it runs through the desolate landscape of Northern Nevada.

2014 General Tire TrophyLite Silver State 300

Alamo, NV - The countless twists and turns that make up the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 course, round 3 of the General Tire Trophylite race series, were somewhat overshadowed by the twists and turns of fate that took place in the closing miles of the race. After hours of flat-out running, the top five Trophylite trucks all had a shot at the win. Keith Sato had the speed to come out on top winning by only seconds.

The Metro Honda / Metro Acura hard charger award was too tough to call at this race; every team was pushing it to the maximum. It was decided to roll the 1K prize over until Vegas to Reno making the pot $2,000 when the Trophylite series takes on the longest off-road race in the United States August 14-16.

Mint 400 Results

Las Vegas, NV - There are two schools of thought in off-road racing; you can out think your competition or just flat outrun them. At the General Tire Mint 400 presented by Polaris, Ben Abatti III and defending champ PJ Guglielmo chose the latter. The Mint 400 is run outside Las Vegas, Nevada in some rather nasty desert terrain. It’s known for chewing up race trucks and drivers. To go flat out from the drop of the green flag takes guts and a deep trust in your crew and equipment. The team was penalized 15 minutes for a race incident. It’s safe to assume that Casey Folks does not like to hand out penalties to his racers but the problem with most rules, they don’t weigh intent and in order to be consistent they have to be held to the letter, which is not always fair. The Abatti’s drove a great race and took the news hard when they learned of the penalty at the awards ceremony.
